Hour History from 1926

  • 1926 Giulio Sommaruga founded the company in Gallarate (VA).
  • The activity started as a small laboratory that produced loom reeds for local weaving industries.
  • In the 1930s the company grew exponentially, Giulio designed and built new machinery to increase productivity.


  • 1954 Luigi Sommaruga, son of Giulio, started working in the company. In the following years he expanded the range of products introducing combs for warp preparation.
  • In the '60s began the production of expansion combs for warping, beaming and sizing machines.


  • At the end of the 80’s Carlo Sommaruga, son of Luigi, started working in the company and updated the production department with new automatic machines controlled by computers.
  • The production of the hook reeds begins.
  • In 1989 Luigi Sommaruga invented and patented "Cernimatic S", the first automatic warp leasing machine.


  • Since 2000 there have been significant improvements in production and products thanks to major investments in new production lines and CNC machines (computerised numerical control)
  • In 2019 we invented, designed and built "Giulia CMS" a new CNC machine, unique in its kind, able to produce highest precision reeds.
